THE ARTS SOCIETY WALTON ON THE HILL

[formerly Walton-on-the-Hill DFAS a member of NADFAS]

We were established on 16 May 1974 as a member society of what was then NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies). However, on 17 May 2017, the national name was changed to The Arts Society and we in turn became THE ARTS SOCIETY WALTON ON THE HILL. We meet eleven times a year at the Riddell Hall in Walton-on-the-Hill for lectures on a wide variety of subjects.

Our meetings are on the 3rd Thursday of each month (except August). Lectures are held at 10:45 am, and coffee and biscuits are served between 10:00 and 10:30 am. We hold our Summer Lunch following the June meeting and likewise a Christmas Lunch in December. In addition to lectures (or talks) we organise Visits to art galleries, museums and places of special historic, architectural, cultural or topical interest. Also, each year we try to arrange a Tour of 5 - 7 days within the British Isles or Europe; this year, 2019, we will visit for 6 days.

Our involvement is also extensive in activities such as Heritage Volunteers, Young Arts and Church Recording. On days when we are selling tickets for Visits or any other event, sales commence at 09:45 am, unless otherwise announced in advance.

Please click on the LECTURES section for details of the talks coming up.

We are one of the oldest societies, especially in Surrey, where we are part of The Arts Society East Surrey Area [for more information, click on the link at top of this page (R/H)]. On 16 May 2014 we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a Champagne Tea Party at Kingswood Golf Club. For pictures of this happy occasion please click on this link  and scroll down to 16 May 2014.

THE ARTS SOCIETY Formerly NADFAS (National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies)

Founded in 1968 as NADFAS, The Arts Society is close approaching its 50th Birthday. It is now a worldwide organisation based on a love of the Arts in all forms [for more information, click on the link at top of this page (L/H)].

It is a leading arts charity widely acknowledged for its valuable contribution to arts education and heritage conservation. With around 360 local Arts Societies in the UK, mainland Europe and the antipodes, its principal objective is the promotion and advancement of the aesthetic education of the public.

Members enjoy high quality and wide-ranging lectures, special events and volunteering activities; and included in the annual membership subscription is a free quarterly magazine, plus concessions from museums and galleries across the country. Other aims include the cultivation, appreciation and study of the arts, giving aid to the preservation of our national artistic heritage for the benefit of the public and, of course, The Arts Society provides members with enormous pleasure and fun!
